2019 Special Guests
MC Tara Hebblethwaite: Rogers KW Women of the Year 2019
After a life-changing event in 2014, when Tara witnessed a young man die by suicide, she decided to use her voice, education, and passion for community to raise awareness of the impact of stigma surrounding mental health. From 2014 to today, Tara has passionately shared her own story of struggling daily with mental illness, which silenced her for so long, in hopes that we can build a healthy community where no one else lives in silence, shame, or takes their life because of mental illness – regardless of the severity or type of diagnosis. In 2018, her strong advocacy was awarded with the Rogers Women of the Year award for Health & Wellness in Waterloo Region and her story quickly became the feature of GRAND magazine and the Record; further expanding her reach and story of strength, empowerment, and inspiration for those who impacted by mental health struggles.
Musical Guest Charlie the Kid
Charlie the Kid’s high energy and upbeat style, along with youthful flavour and humour is what make him one of the GTA's most unique singer-songwriters. Equipped with songs, a guitar, guitar-case-kick-drum and license-plate-foot-snare, his style emulates the likes of 'Jason Mraz', 'Barenaked Ladies' and musical comedian 'Bo Burham’. Playing since the ripe young age of 11, this kid has been performing for years. Currently playing over 100 shows a year, he keeps busy performing with local and touring bands around Toronto and Ontario. Some big moments for Charlie the Kid were placing the 2017 Indie Week Finals in Toronto, making the Grand Finale of the Kingston Busker's Rendezvous, and this year, quitting his day job to pursue music. That last one was a big deal... Aside from playing guitar and working on a record for Toronto band ‘Olivia and the Creepy Crawlies’, Charlie is currently working on weekly YouTube content and regular gigging in Toronto. Things are going alright for Charlie the Kid!
